FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

REBUILDING TOGETHER-ATLANTA TO MAKEOVER LOW-INCOME COMMUNITY DURING AN ALL DAY EVENT

(ATLANTA)  Saturday, April 26, 2008, with hammer and paint brushes in hand, over 500 volunteers will gather to change the lives of 30 homeowners of the English Avenue and Vine City communities.  Many of these volunteers are not skilled in home repair; they just know that there are many people who need help.  And in Atlanta, the need is great.

“We have walked into homes in several areas of Atlanta with no running water, floors caving in and ceilings coming down,” said Jan Jordan, executive director of Rebuilding Together- Atlanta.  “Every homeowner deserves the right to age safely and securely in their own home, and we want to make sure we can make that happen for everyone in Atlanta.”

Rebuilding Together- Atlanta (RTA) is a volunteer organization that helps low-income homeowners retain their dignity by repairing their homes before the houses fall into disrepair.  The work they do ranges across the board – from painting and gardening to roof, wall and floor repairs.  “It is amazing what all of these volunteers can do in one day,” said Ms. Jordan.  “It really doesn’t matter about the skill level; all that matters is having people who want to make a difference!”

This year the need is even greater due to the recent tornados in the Vine City area. In response to this need, Aspen Contracting has partnered with RTA to fix damaged roofs in the area. Aspen Contracting, a national casualty roofing firm that emphasizes local service, is dedicated to quickly and efficiently serving homeowners in storm-ravaged areas. As part of their efforts to bring integrity to the storm repair industry, Aspen Contracting will be providing repaired or replacement roofs to deserving homeowners in the Vine City area, free of charge. Aspen Contracting represents the next generation of casualty roofing contractors.  Its Founder and President, Christopher (L.C.) Nussbeck follows a simple principle.  “Always do the right thing.”

Numerous community-minded corporations and organizations are participating in this mass makeover, donating their time, tools, materials, as well as providing financial support.  Sponsors include:  Alcoa, Archer Western Contractors, Atlanta Development Authority, Best Buy, Brockbuilt, CB Richard Ellis, Findlay Roofing, Hines, The Home Depot, Sprint, and PBS&J.

“Rebuilding Together- Atlanta is committed to making an impact on the city’s housing needs, and we are approaching it community by community,” said Jan Jordan.  “We’ve found that when you strengthen a community, you strengthen the life source of every home in it.  We’re excited to be partnering with the neighborhood planning units and working in such a historically significant area – English Avenue and Vine City.”

Over the next two years, RTA plans to take on over 200 projects in needy areas of Atlanta.  “We can do so much good,” said Ms. Jordan.  “We just need more sponsors and more volunteers.  But our National Rebuilding Day this Saturday is a great start!”
